A dash is a level that rarity never sees: a rare card starts at 3, an epic at 6, a legendary at 9 and a champion at 11, so they skip the cheap early upgrades and pay the same gold as everything else from there on.

How does the upgrade calculator work?

Every upgrade in Clash Royale costs gold and card copies, and the numbers climb fast enough that the last few levels cost more than everything before them put together. This is a card level calculator and a collection level calculator in one: the table below is the whole cost list, and a player tag turns it into your list, with what each card still needs, what you already have, and what it would take to reach the collection level you want.

The cheapest route, not just a route

Put in a player tag and the route is built from your own collection: the levels your cards are actually on and the copies you are actually holding. One card level is one collection level whatever the card, and copies belong to the card that uses them, so gold is the only thing being spread around. Doing the cheapest levels first is therefore provably the most collection level your gold can buy, not a rule of thumb.

Evolutions are the shortcut

Unlocking an evolution or a hero is 5 collection levels and costs no gold at all. Say how many you plan to unlock and the target drops by five for each before a single upgrade is counted, which on a mid level account is worth hundreds of thousands of gold.

Gold is the same for everyone

Since the economy rework the gold price of a level is the same whatever the card. A legendary looks cheaper only because it starts at level 9 and never pays the early steps. The copies are where the rarities differ, and they differ a lot.

Questions people ask

How much gold does it take to max a card in Clash Royale?

365,625 gold, from level 1 to level 16, and that is the same for a common and for a champion. What changes is the copies: about 23,000 for a common, 4,800 for a rare, 600 for an epic, 70 for a legendary and 42 for a champion.

Why does level 16 cost so much?

The last two levels alone are 210,000 gold, which is more than levels 2 through 14 put together. That is deliberate: the curve is flat enough early that a new account can move, then steep enough that a maxed deck stays rare.

Does the calculator count the cards I already have?

Yes. The Cards column is what the upgrade path consumes in total, Have is what is sitting in your collection right now, and Missing is the difference. Only Missing is what you still need to find.

How is collection level calculated in Clash Royale?

It is the sum of every card level on your account, plus your tower troops, plus 5 for each evolution and 5 for each hero you have unlocked. So one card upgrade is always one collection level, whether it is a common going to 7 or a champion going to 16.

What is the fastest way to raise collection level?

Unlock evolutions and heroes first, because each is worth 5 levels and costs no gold. After that, upgrade whatever is cheapest rather than whatever is in your deck: a level 7 common costs 100 gold and gives the same 1 level as a card going to 16 for 120,000.

Why do rare and epic cards start at level 3 and 6?

A card enters your collection at a level that depends on its rarity, and the game shows everything on one scale so you can compare a level 11 common with a level 11 legendary. So a rare simply never has a level 1 or 2 to pay for.
